My visions for summer dressing have been dancing in my head for weeks and weeks so I’m happy to finally get them organized and pinned down on paper. About a month ago I had the sudden urge to start rummaging through my things and gather up a bunch of accessories. I laid them out on my table; a ruby red beaded bag, a zebra print vintage silk scarf, a sparkly mirrored tube top, a brown silk floral hair clip and a ton of jewelry among other things. This was the beginning of my summer mood board. It gave me the start of a color palette, the first inklings of texture, and a direction to move forward with. Since then I’ve been expanding the vision and filling in all the gaps.
Et voila….the summer mood boards.
Princess Caroline of Monaco (this is my ultimate summer inspiration of the whole bunch), David Gobert for Marie Claire 2010, Alexa Chung, Jeanne Damas in a vintage YSL corset, tassel earrings & faux flower hair clip, Sophia Loren on set of “Legend of the Lost” 1957, Veruschka in Pucci, Christie Tyler in a leopard print dress, Cher in turquoise & silver, The Talented Mr. Ripley filmed in Ischia, Liv Tyler in Stealing Beauty — Tuscany.
Woman in Pucci, Bahamas —1968, Still from The White Lotus (this is here for silhouette — I want to emulate it with a tube top & some sort of belted sarong or gathered skirt), Shalom Harlow in bangles & a tiny little bag, Rabanne 2019 (jewelry belt over sarong <3) Margarita & Angela Missoni, Laura Biogiotti 1993 (paisley & coordinating gold jewelry), A scene from Sicily (credit unknown), Jane Birkin in a tassel necklace, Marisa Berenson (the most beautifully bangled arms), Liv Tyler in Stealing Beauty — Tuscany.
I’m going to the west coast and to Italy for a few weeks each this summer and those trips are definitely influencing my mindset for the entirety of the season. I’d describe that mindset as 60s & 70s influenced; dark, sheer and a bit sparkly. Reds, burgundys, browns, black & navy but sultry with lots of skin. A red hot italian summer if you will with a western tinge. Dripping in jewelry. After a long time of being quite minimal with jewelry, in the last year or so I’ve circled back around to wanting it all.
I’m particularly loving:
Sets: matching or coordinating earrings and necklace, necklace and bracelet or all three
Tassels (of course)
Anything black and/or red
Italian (style): gold, bold & tubogas (you might call them the holy trinity of 70’s italian jewelry)
A little bit of Oaxacan and western feeling silver
Bangles
Jewelry belts (particularly to wear over white linen pants, sarongs and simple black dresses)
Below are some shopping boards full of jewelry in a wide range of prices that I’ve been scouring the internet for.
Vintage Mexican silver earrings, Oaxacan silver & pearl fish earrings, Long silver teardrop earrings that look like Cher’s, Vintage Oaxacan filigree earrings, Set of three bangles. silver bangles, turquoise necklace (best worn w/ the silver teardrop earrings above), vintage Oaxacan necklace (I think this is amazing), set of two bangles.
I have a lot more to extract from the moodboards at the top aside from jewelry (vintage pucci, brightly colored slip dresses, dark summer florals, tube tops, little summer bags, paisley print, and more). So over the coming weeks I’ll be sending out more shopping boards that correlate.
Loving this moodboard... so great and unexpected. Also, it made me realize I've never seen Stealing beauty. Must change that!
Obsessed with the White Lotus silhouette
